3 Tips For Your First Wild Camping Trip

3 Tips For Your First Wild Camping Trip

Wild camping is a popular travel trend at the minute because it’s a great way to explore a new place. Wild camping simply means camping outside of a normal campsite. Instead of setting up your tent and leaving it, you can hike through the wilderness and find a new spot to pitch up each night if you like.

It’s not for everybody because you won’t have the luxury of a shower and toilet block, but if you can do without that, it’s the perfect way to have a real adventure. If you are going to go wild camping, it’s important that you are prepared unless if you are Bear Grylls. These are some of the best tips for beginners that are planning their first wild camping trip.

Check The Law Before Pitching Up

You can’t just turn up somewhere with a tent and pitch up wherever you like because it may not be legal.

Depending on where you are, there are different laws about wild camping and it’s important that you check before you go. Some countries, like Scotland, for example, have relaxed laws about wild camping and you can pitch up almost anywhere. But if you were to visit the Grand Canyon, you would have to be more careful as there are only certain areas outside of the national park where wild camping is allowed.

The last thing that you want is to be moved on in the middle of the night or slapped with a big fine, so make sure that you know the law before you pick a spot.

Invest In Good Camping Gear

If you are hiking through the wilderness and camping in secluded spots, you rely heavily on the equipment that you take with you. The camping gear that you take could be the difference between an awful trip and an amazing one, so you should do your research and get the best equipment.

You can find some great reviews and lists over at outdoorcommand, so make sure that you check them out and compile a list of everything you need. The tent is the most important part, so make sure that you get one that can withstand the elements but also one that is easy to put up and take down. You need to make sure that you get lightweight camping gear as well because you will have to carry it all with you when you are hiking.

Learn To Read A Map

You won’t be able to rely on the GPS on your phone when you are out in the middle of nowhere because you most likely won’t have a signal. Even if you do, you don’t want to be completely reliant on it in case the battery dies or something goes wrong. That’s why it’s so important that you learn to read a map with a compass. Before you go, you should study the map and work out a route so you don’t get lost.
